Video Capture: Tennis Footwork — 5 Drills To Improve Your Footwork and Movement — Tennis Evolution

Hey everyone someone here from top tennis training and in this video I want to show you five drills that will help you improve your footwork and movement out on the tennis court so the first one is all about changing direction and that side shuffle so having quick steps changing direction quickly and in order to do this drill you'll need a cup of cans a couple of cones or a couple of water bottles so we're going to separate the obstacles five steps apart two three.
Four five so we're going to be doing figures of eight around both cans so I'm starting behind one and I'm going to side shuffle around the front of the other one and then back so I'm doing a figure of eight around both now when I get back to the starting position that counts as one try to go for six to eight in a row and that would be one set and you could do free sets of this exercise so I'm starting behind the kind and I'm trying to go in and out zigzagging.
Between both try not to knock either one down and making sure that I'm quite low balanced and have a wide base when I'm doing this drill one two three four it's really important when you get around the cones to make small adjustment steps if you want a surface like this that would be one set and then go for free set of that drill the second drill is all about the split.
Step so I'm going to go behind the line hold your racket if you can this will help you to feel that same feeling that when you're playing tennis and we're going to go with a wide base if I have a wide stance here just like I'm going to do on my normal split step from here I jump over the line and I come back that counts as one we're going to go for ten of those in a row to begin so I'm in my ready position and I'm going one two three four five seven.
Eight nine ten that counts as one set if tends to easy you could always do 20 with my juniors and with my more performance players I tend to do 20 of those that's a good warm-up for that split step from the side it's going to look like so that's drill number two ten to 20 in.
A row and go for free sets of that also the next drill is all about pushing off the outside lake this will aid your recovery and help you be more explosive when you're pushing off from a wide Bowl so let's say I've been moved out wide on a wide backhand and now for me to get back into position I want to push off from this outside leg to help really initiate their recovery so in this drill we're going to use the doubles alley I'm starting on one leg or.
One line and I'm jumping to the other line onto the other leg try to hold it for a split second and then push off back on to the other line so it's going to look like so now go for six to eight with each leg so three four five six 7:8 now a few things to avoid when you.
Are doing this drill try not to use straight legs extended knees you don't want to be doing this and you don't want to be just going into the motion you want to really feel like you're getting down low you're exploding off that outside leg and I'm getting down low I'm getting down low so I'm really using my leg muscles my hamstrings and my glutes this drill is a great way to help you increase that explosive power in your.
Leg muscles now go for six to eight reps that will be one set and try to do three sets of this drill the next drill is all about the crossover and side shuffle so you're going to start on one side of the singles court going to the middle and recover I'm using a crossover step and then a side shuffle so it's going to look like this crossover side shuffle force over side shuffle so that would be one rep and we're going to go for five of those in a row so a crossover side.
Crossover side first over side really focus on that change of direction and getting now low with that leg so from the back it's going to look like so and try to really make that first step explosive so you can really push yourself into the middle of the court so explosive side and the last rule is all about having.
Fast feet so we're going to use that wide stance once again I'm going over the line with one step and then the other step so it's like this so I'm going over with the right over with a left back with the right back with the left that would count as one rep and we're going to go for ten of those than one two three four five six seven eight nine ten once again that's one set we're going to go for free of those thanks for watching the video guys I hope you've.
