Advanced Level

Refining what you know. The biomechanics, the felt sense, the body-mechanics behind every stroke that separates a 3.5 from a 4.5.

Why This Section Exists

Once the strokes are functional, the question becomes: what makes them reliable? The answer is rarely in the stroke itself. It's in the body that produces the stroke — how it coordinates, how it transfers force, how it senses itself in space.

The Advanced Level is where the physical science meets the felt experience. The articles here are longer, denser, and assume you have skin in the game — you play, you practice, you want to understand why what works, works.

What's in This Section

Basics

Deep Dives

Focused exploration of specific advanced topics:

  • Embodied Cognition — how the body knows what it's doing
  • Fascia Spiral — the continuous connective tissue web that transmits force
  • Head Position and Vestibular — balance, gaze stability, the inner ear in tennis
  • Proprioception — the felt sense of where your body is in space
  • Reflex Arcs — the fast neural loops that handle incoming balls
  • Tensegrity Body — the body as a tensegrity structure
  • Two Engines — the upper-body and lower-body coordination
  • X-Factor Anatomy — the hip-shoulder separation that generates power

How to Approach This Material

Start with the Mastery Manual. It sets the framework. The deep-dives assume you've read the manual.

Pick the deep-dive that matches the question in your body right now. Got a balance issue? Head Position. Got a power issue? X-Factor or Two Engines. Got a timing issue? Reflex Arcs.

Take the deep-dives to the court. The articles describe mechanics. Your body has to learn them. Practice is the only way.

These aren't topics you finish. They're topics you keep going back to, deeper each time, as your body learns to feel more.
