DET Drills — Energy Transfer

Four drills for training the DET (Dynamic Energy Transfer) engine directly — the goal in each one is to feel force arriving from the ground rather than being generated by the arm.

Drill 1: Feel the Ground Reaction Force

Goal: connect the brain to ground force.

How: stand still and give a small bounce. Feel the counter-push traveling from the heels up to the crown of the head. Then hit balls slowly, focusing on "pushing" into the ground before the arm ever swings. See Ground Reaction Force for the underlying mechanism this drill is training.

Drill 2: Stretch the Cross-Body Fascia

Goal: increase the spring coefficient $k$ and the stretch distance $\Delta x$ in the body's elastic system.

How: rotate the upper body while keeping the hips fixed. Feel the tension build along the ribs and chest — that tension is the fascia storing energy.

Drill 3: Overload Wrist Locking

Goal: reach $K_{wrist} \geq 0.85$.

How: use a racket with added swingweight (lead tape on the head). Hit balls against a wall at close range, focusing entirely on keeping the racket face from rattling or twisting at contact.

Drill 4: The Bow Technique

Goal: build the "bow" shape used in the serve and forehand.

How: jump upward and let the body arch slightly, like a bent bow. Feel the extra elastic tension this bend creates through the trunk.
