Volley Drills — The Reflex Wall¶
Five drills built around the Volley: Redirect Instead of Swing philosophy — the racket face acts as a wall, not a bat, and these drills train the hands and feet to hold that wall steady under increasing pressure.
Drill 1: Rapid Fire¶
Goal: hold $K_{wrist} \geq 0.95$ while reacting fast.
How: stand 2 meters from the net. Have a partner feed balls continuously to different spots. Punch volleys only, short and compact — absolutely no backswing.
Drill 2: Target Precision¶
Goal: master the reflex angle.
How: set up four targets, one in each corner of the court. Volley for precision against each one.
KPI: better than 70% of volleys land on target.
Drill 3: V-Step Transition¶
Goal: optimize the interception point.
How: ready position, then a 45-degree V-step, then contact, then recover. Repeat until the footwork and the swing timing feel like a single unit rather than two separate actions.
Drill 4: Punch vs. Drop Decision¶
Goal: train fast switching of $K_{wrist}$.
How: alternate rapidly between two calls — "Punch" (lock the wrist, $K \geq 0.95$) and "Drop" (deliberately soften the wrist to kill pace). This is the same touch-vs-firm distinction covered in the Tensegrity and the Cradle page.
Drill 5: Live Volley Points¶
Goal: hold the pattern under real pressure.
How: play out a live point ending at the net. Have AI analysis review your V-step timing and $K_{wrist}$ afterward.
